Iceland is an island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, close to the Arctic Circle. Even though it is called Iceland, it is not all ice! Green valleys, hot springs, and volcanoes cover the land. Iceland has over 30 active volcanoes and more than 10,000 waterfalls.

Hot water bubbles up from underground all over Iceland. People swim in warm outdoor pools even when it is snowing. Geysers shoot boiling water high into the air. The most famous one, called Strokkur, erupts about every six to ten minutes. Puffins nest on Iceland’s cliffs every summer by the millions.
