Iceland is an island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, close to the Arctic Circle. Even though it is called Iceland, it is not all ice! Green valleys, hot springs, and volcanoes cover the land. Iceland has over 30 active volcanoes and more than 10,000 waterfalls.
- Iceland has no mosquitoes, no wild snakes, and very few trees.
- In winter, you can sometimes see the northern lights painting the sky with green and purple glow.
- Puffins are one of Iceland’s favorite birds, with bright orange beaks and feet!
- Nearly all of Iceland’s electricity comes from volcanoes and hot water underground.
