The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest ocean in the world. It sits at the very top of the Earth, around the North Pole. For most of the year, a thick layer of ice covers much of the water. The water underneath is very cold, usually around 28 degrees Fahrenheit. That is below freezing!

Polar bears walk across the Arctic ice to hunt for seals. Narwhals swim below the surface. These unusual whales have a long, spiraling tusk that looks like a unicorn horn. Walruses also live here, resting on floating chunks of ice.

The Arctic Ocean is at the very top of the Earth, surrounding the North Pole. It is bordered by North America, Europe, and Asia.
