A rooster is a boy chicken. Roosters are famous for crowing “cock-a-doodle-doo” early in the morning to wake everyone up! They are brave and watch over the other chickens to keep them safe.
Roosters have bright, colorful feathers and a red comb on top of their heads. They also have a red flap under their chin called a wattle. Roosters are usually bigger than hens and have long, shiny tail feathers.
Roosters eat seeds, grains, bugs, and worms. They scratch the ground with their feet to find tasty things to eat. Roosters sometimes find food and call the hens over to eat first before they eat.
- Roosters strut around the farm like they are in charge.
- They do not just crow in the morning – they can crow at any time of day!
- Each rooster has its own special crow that sounds a little different from other roosters.
