Chickens are birds that live on farms all around the world! A boy chicken is called a rooster, a girl chicken is called a hen, and baby chickens are called chicks. Chickens are one of the most common birds on Earth. They say “cluck cluck” and roosters say “cock-a-doodle-doo” in the morning!
Chickens have soft feathers, two legs, a beak, and a red wobbly piece of skin on top of their head called a comb. They can be white, brown, black, red, or even have colorful feathers! Roosters are usually bigger and more colorful than hens. Chickens have small wings but they cannot fly very far.
- Hens can lay about one egg almost every day!
- Chickens can remember more than 100 different faces of people and other animals.
- Baby chicks start talking to their mom while they are still inside the egg!
- There are more chickens on Earth than any other bird.
