A rocket is made up of many important parts that all work together to blast off into space! Each part has a special job. Without any one of them, the rocket could not fly. Let’s learn about the main parts of a rocket.
At the bottom of a rocket are the engines, which burn fuel and push the rocket up. Above the engines are big fuel tanks that hold all the fuel the rocket needs. At the very top is the payload area, where astronauts sit or where satellites are stored. The nose cone at the tip is pointy to help the rocket slice through the air.
- Some rockets have stages that fall off as the fuel inside them runs out.
- This makes the rocket lighter so it can go faster!
- The fuel tanks are the biggest part of most rockets.
- The nose cone protects whatever is inside from the heat and wind during launch.
