Rockets are powerful machines that can fly all the way into space! They work by burning fuel and shooting hot gases out of the bottom. This pushes the rocket up, up, and away! It is the same idea as when you let go of a balloon and it zooms around the room.
Inside a rocket, fuel burns and creates super hot gases. These gases shoot out of the bottom of the rocket very fast. As the gases push down, the rocket pushes up! This force is called thrust. Rockets have a pointy shape to help them cut through the air, and they are built to be as light as possible so they can go faster.
