The food you eat every day comes from farms! Farmers work very hard to grow fruits, vegetables, and grains for us to eat. They plant tiny seeds in the soil and take care of them with water and sunshine until they grow big and ready to pick. Some farmers also raise animals like cows, chickens, and pigs.
After food is grown or raised on the farm, it goes on a big journey to get to you! Trucks carry fruits and vegetables from farms to factories where they are washed, packed, and sometimes turned into other foods like cereal or juice. Then the food is delivered to grocery stores where your family can buy it. Cows give us milk, chickens give us eggs, and we get meat from many farm animals too.
- A single farm can grow enough food to feed hundreds of families!
- Some fruits and vegetables travel over 1,000 miles from the farm to your grocery store.
- Next time you eat a crunchy carrot or a juicy strawberry, think about the farmer who grew it and all the people who helped bring it to your plate!
