Iguazu Falls sits on the border between Argentina and Brazil in South America. It is not just one waterfall. It is a collection of about 275 waterfalls spread across nearly two miles! The biggest one is called the Devil’s Throat.
The rainforest around the falls is home to toucans, jaguars, monkeys, and giant butterflies. Colorful rainbows appear in the mist almost every sunny day. Visitors walk along special pathways built right over the river to get close to the crashing water.
- The name Iguazu comes from a local word meaning “big water.” That is a perfect name!
- During the rainy season, enough water flows over the falls every second to fill about six swimming pools.
- Iguazu Falls is one of the widest waterfall systems in the world.
