Angel Falls is the tallest waterfall in the world. It is in Venezuela, a country in South America. The water drops 3,212 feet from the top of a flat-topped mountain called Auyantepui. That is more than twice as tall as the tallest building on Earth!
The waterfall is so high that much of the water turns into mist before it reaches the bottom. The jungle around it is full of monkeys, toucans, and colorful butterflies. To get there, visitors ride a boat up a river and then hike through the rainforest.
- The falls are named after Jimmy Angel, an American pilot who flew over them in 1933.
- The local Pemon people had known about the waterfall for hundreds of years before that.
- They call it Kerepakupai Vena, which means “waterfall of the deepest place.”
