Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. It is 3,558 feet tall. Instead of having a pointy peak like most mountains, its top is almost 2 miles long and completely flat, like a giant table. That is how it got its name!
Table Mountain is made of sandstone that is over 500 million years old. That makes it one of the oldest mountains in the world. Clouds often roll over the flat top like a white tablecloth. People can ride a cable car that spins slowly so passengers can see the view in every direction.
- More than 1,500 types of plants grow on Table Mountain.
- Many of them do not grow anywhere else on Earth!
- Small, furry animals called rock hyraxes live on the mountain.
- They look like guinea pigs, but their closest living relative is actually the elephant.
