Kruger National Park is one of the biggest game reserves in Africa. It is in the northeast corner of South Africa and is about the same size as the state of New Jersey. The park was created in 1898 to protect the wild animals that live there.
Kruger is famous for its “Big Five” animals: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo. But the park has many more creatures too. There are hippos, giraffes, zebras, crocodiles, and over 500 kinds of birds. Visitors go on safari drives to spot animals from their cars.
- The park has rivers, grasslands, and forests.
- Some of the baobab trees inside the park are over 1,000 years old!
- Rangers work day and night to protect the animals from poachers.
- Kruger is home to more kinds of large animals than almost any other park in Africa.
