George Washington was the very first president of the United States of America! People called him the “Father of Our Country” because he was so important in helping America begin. Everybody trusted him because he was strong, fair, and kind. He is one of the most important leaders in all of history!
When America was just starting out, George led our army and helped the country become free from the King of England! After winning the war, the people asked him to be the very first president. He worked with other important leaders to build our brand new government. He could have stayed president forever, but by giving up power, he taught the world that leaders should serve the people!
