Have you ever looked up during the day and seen the Moon in the bright blue sky? It might seem surprising, but the Moon can often be seen during the daytime! It does not only come out at night.
The Moon reflects sunlight, and it is big and close enough to Earth that we can see it even when the sky is bright. This happens most often when the Moon is in its quarter phase, looking like a half circle. During these phases, the Moon is high in the sky at the same time as the Sun. The Moon is in the sky during the day just as often as at night!
- The daytime moon looks pale and white against the blue sky.
- You can see the Moon during the day about half the days of each month if you look carefully.
- The Moon does not actually disappear during the day.
- It is just sometimes below the horizon where we cannot see it!
