A planetarium is a special theater where you can see the stars, even during the daytime! It has a big, round ceiling shaped like a dome. A special projector shines lights on the dome to create a beautiful night sky all around you.
You sit back in a comfy seat and look up at the dome ceiling. The projector shows thousands of stars, planets, and constellations on the dome. It feels like you are really outside under the night sky! A narrator tells you about what you are seeing. Planetariums can also show you what the sky looks like from other planets or what it looked like thousands of years ago.
- The first modern planetarium was built in Germany in 1923.
- Some planetariums can show over 9,000 stars on their domes.
- Many planetariums also have cool space shows with music and special effects that take you on a trip through the solar system!
