You do not need a fancy telescope to enjoy the night sky! You can see cool things just by going outside your home on a clear night and looking up. The night sky is full of stars, planets, and surprises waiting to be discovered.
Find a spot in your yard or a nearby park that is away from bright lights. Give your eyes about 10 minutes to get used to the dark. Then look up! You can spot the Moon, bright planets like Venus and Jupiter, and lots of stars. Binoculars can help you see even more. Try looking for the Big Dipper or other constellations.
- On a clear, dark night you can see about 2,500 stars with just your eyes.
- The best time to watch the sky is on nights with no clouds and no bright moon.
- You might see a shooting star if you watch the sky for a little while.
