A spacecraft is any vehicle that travels through space! Some spacecraft carry people, and some fly on their own without anyone on board. Spacecraft come in many shapes and sizes, and they each have a special job to do.
Spacecraft are built to survive the harsh conditions of space, where it is very cold, very hot, and there is no air. They have special shields to protect them and solar panels or batteries to give them power. Some spacecraft orbit Earth, some travel to other planets, and some even fly out of our solar system!
- The International Space Station is the biggest spacecraft ever built.
- It is as big as a football field!
- Some spacecraft are as small as a shoebox.
- The word “spacecraft” can mean anything from a tiny satellite to a giant space station.
