Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in our solar system. It is a beautiful deep blue color and is called an “ice giant” because it has a lot of ice inside it. Neptune is so far away that it takes sunlight over four hours to reach it!
Neptune is one of the windiest places in the solar system. Its winds blow at over 1,000 miles per hour, which is faster than any wind on Earth! Neptune is a giant ball of gas and ice, so there is no solid ground to stand on. It has faint rings around it and 16 known moons.
- It takes Neptune 165 Earth years to go around the Sun just once.
- Neptune’s biggest moon, Triton, is one of the coldest places in the solar system.
- Neptune was discovered in 1846, and scientists found it by using math before they ever saw it through a telescope!
