Astronauts have to exercise every single day in space! Without gravity, their muscles and bones would get weak very fast. So staying active is one of the most important things astronauts do on the space station.
Astronauts exercise for about two hours every day. They use a special treadmill with straps that hold them down so they do not float away. They also have a bicycle that they pedal while floating, and a weight machine that uses stretchy bands instead of heavy weights.
- Without exercise, astronauts could lose up to one percent of their bone strength every month.
- Astronauts have even run a marathon in space on the treadmill!
- Their sweat does not drip down.
- It floats off their skin as little bubbles!
