A galaxy is a huge group of stars, planets, dust, and gas all held together by gravity. Think of it like a giant space neighborhood! Our galaxy is called the Milky Way, and our Sun is just one of the billions of stars inside it.
There are billions of galaxies in the universe. Some are shaped like spirals, some look like ovals, and some have no shape at all. Scientists use powerful telescopes to study galaxies that are very, very far away. Some galaxies are so far that their light takes billions of years to reach us!
- The Milky Way has between 100 billion and 400 billion stars in it.
- Our nearest big galaxy neighbor is called Andromeda.
- Galaxies can bump into each other and join together to make even bigger galaxies!
