Some things in space move incredibly fast! The fastest thing in the whole universe is light. It travels at 186,282 miles per second. That is so fast it could zoom around the Earth more than seven times in just one second!
Rockets are fast, but they are much slower than light. Rockets push hot gas out the back to move forward. Scientists build them to be very lightweight so they can go as fast as possible. Some tiny particles from exploding stars also move almost as fast as light!
- Light from the Sun takes about eight minutes to reach Earth.
- The Parker Solar Probe is the fastest spacecraft ever built, zooming at over 400,000 miles per hour.
- Even at that amazing speed, it would still take thousands of years to reach the nearest star!
