Long ago, people did not have fast cars or big airplanes to get around. Instead, they often walked many miles or rode on friendly horses. Many families used wooden buggies and wagons pulled by horses to travel into town.
Trains were also very different a long time ago. They were called steam engines, and they made loud “choo-choo” sounds! These trains used big puffs of white smoke to move quickly down the tracks. People also traveled on big sailing ships with white sails that caught the wind to move across the blue ocean.
Learning about old transportation helps us see how much things have changed. Today we can fly across the country in just a few hours. Long ago, that same trip would have taken weeks or even months!
