Daffodils are bright yellow or white flowers that are some of the very first to bloom in the springtime, sometimes even pushing right up through the snow! They have a special shape with a little trumpet in the middle surrounded by a ring of petals. Daffodils originally come from Europe and have been loved by people for hundreds of years.
There are over 13,000 different types of daffodils, and they come in shades of yellow, white, orange, and even pink! Their trumpet shape makes them easy to spot. A big group of daffodils growing together is called a “drift,” and some parks plant thousands of them so that entire hillsides turn golden yellow in the spring.
- Deer and squirrels do not like to eat daffodils because the bulbs taste bitter, so daffodils come back year after year without being bothered!
- Some daffodils have been blooming in the same spot for over 50 years.
- Daffodils can live for a very long time and get bigger every year!
