Borneo is the third biggest island in the whole world. It sits in Southeast Asia, near the equator, so it is warm and rainy all year long. Three countries share the island: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Borneo is covered in thick rainforest that is millions of years old.
The rainforest is home to amazing animals you cannot find anywhere else. Orangutans swing through the tall trees, and they are some of the smartest animals on Earth. Pygmy elephants, the smallest elephants in Asia, also live here. You can spot giant Rafflesia flowers that grow wider than a bicycle wheel and smell really stinky.
- Borneo also has rivers full of crocodiles and caves filled with millions of bats.
- At night, tiny fireflies light up the trees along the riverbanks like little living stars!
- One cave in Borneo, Deer Cave, is so big that a jumbo jet could fly through it.
