Rio de Janeiro is a big city in Brazil, the largest country in South America. About 7 million people live there. People in Rio speak Portuguese, not Spanish. The city is right on the Atlantic Ocean and has some of the most famous beaches in the world.
A giant statue called Christ the Redeemer stands on top of a mountain overlooking Rio. It is 98 feet tall with arms stretched wide open. Copacabana and Ipanema are two beautiful beaches where families play soccer and swim in the waves. The mountains and ocean make Rio one of the most beautiful cities anywhere.
