Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, a country in East Africa. About 5 million people live there. The city sits on high ground, so even though Kenya is near the equator, Nairobi has warm and pleasant weather instead of being very hot.
Nairobi is the only big city in the world with a national park inside it. At Nairobi National Park, you can see lions, giraffes, zebras, and rhinos with skyscrapers in the background! There is also a place called the Giraffe Centre where you can feed giraffes right from your hand.
- People in Nairobi enjoy eating nyama choma, which means roasted meat in Swahili.
- Ugali, a thick cornmeal bread, is served with almost every meal.
- Nairobi’s name comes from a Maasai word meaning “cool water,” because of the streams that used to flow through the area.
