Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. About 22 million people live in and around the city, making it one of the biggest cities in the world. The city sits high up in the mountains, more than 7,000 feet above the ocean.
Hundreds of years ago, the Aztec people built a great city called Tenochtitlan on an island in a lake. Mexico City was built right on top of it. Today you can still visit the ruins of Aztec temples in the center of the city. Mexico City also has Chapultepec Park, one of the largest city parks in the world, with a castle, a zoo, and lakes.
