South Korea is a country on a peninsula in East Asia. A peninsula is land with water on three sides. The capital city is Seoul, where about 10 million people live. People in South Korea speak Korean and write using a special alphabet called Hangul.
South Korea is known for a spicy side dish called kimchi, which is made from cabbage and peppers. Koreans eat kimchi with almost every meal. On Korean New Year, called Seollal, children bow to their grandparents and receive money in colorful envelopes.
