Peru is on the west side of South America. The capital city is Lima. People in Peru speak Spanish and Quechua. The Andes Mountains run through Peru, and some peaks are so high they are covered in snow all year long.
Machu Picchu is an ancient stone city built high in the mountains by the Inca people about 600 years ago. It was hidden in the clouds for hundreds of years before it was found again. Peru has rainforest, desert, and mountains all in one country. Llamas and alpacas live in the mountains, and people use their soft wool to make warm clothing.
