North America is the third largest continent. It has 23 countries, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. About 580 million people live here. Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area, but most of its land is forests and wilderness.

North America has many different landscapes. The Rocky Mountains stretch over 3,000 miles from Canada down to New Mexico. The Grand Canyon in Arizona is over a mile deep and was carved by the Colorado River over millions of years. The Great Lakes hold about one-fifth of all the fresh surface water on Earth.
