Poison dart frogs are tiny frogs with very bright colors! Their bright colors tell other animals to stay away, warning “don’t eat me, I am not safe to touch!” These little frogs live in rainforests and are only about as big as your thumb or a paper clip.
Poison dart frogs can be bright blue, red, yellow, or orange. Some have stripes and some have spots, and each kind of poison dart frog has its own special color pattern. They are very small but their colors are so bright that they are easy to see on the dark forest floor.
- Poison dart frog dads are great parents!
- The dad carries the baby tadpoles on his back to find safe pools of water for them to grow in.
- The frogs get their poison from the bugs they eat in the wild, so poison dart frogs raised in zoos are not poisonous at all!
- The golden poison dart frog is one of the most poisonous animals on Earth, even though it is smaller than a paper clip!
