The beluga whale is a small, white whale that lives in cold ocean waters. Belugas are sometimes called “sea canaries” because they make lots of fun sounds! They are very friendly and playful animals.
Beluga whales are all white and have round, squishy heads. They can move their heads side to side, which is something most other whales cannot do. Baby belugas are born gray and turn white as they grow up.
Beluga whales eat fish, shrimp, and squid. They use sounds to find food in dark, cold water. Belugas swim together in groups to help each other find tasty meals.
- Belugas can click, whistle, and squeak to talk to each other.
- They can make so many sounds that you can sometimes hear them above the water!
- Belugas like to play with objects they find in the water, like sticks and rocks.
