Humans have been exploring space for less than 70 years, but we have already done so much! It all started in 1957 when the first satellite was launched into space. Since then, we have walked on the Moon, sent robots to Mars, and built a space station.
In 1957, Russia launched Sputnik, the first satellite. In 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space. In 1969, Neil Armstrong walked on the Moon. In 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched. In 1998, countries started building the International Space Station. And in 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope was launched to see even farther into space!
- The Space Age is less than 70 years old, which is younger than some grandparents!
- More than 600 people have traveled to space since Yuri Gagarin’s first flight.
- Scientists are now planning to send people back to the Moon and eventually to Mars!
