Every morning the Sun appears to rise up on one side of the sky, and every evening it sets on the other side. But the Sun is not really moving across the sky. It just looks that way because Earth is spinning! Sunrises and sunsets are some of the most beautiful things you can see.
Earth spins around once every 24 hours. When your part of Earth turns to face the Sun, you see a sunrise. When it turns away, you see a sunset. At sunrise and sunset, sunlight travels through more air. The extra air scatters away the blue light, and we get to see gorgeous orange, red, and pink colors instead!
- The Sun rises in the east and sets in the west every single day.
- On the space station, astronauts see 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets every day because they orbit Earth so fast.
- No two sunsets look exactly the same!
