A nebula is a huge cloud of gas and dust floating in space. Nebulas are like giant nurseries where baby stars are born! They come in many beautiful colors like pink, blue, and green.
Inside a nebula, clumps of gas and dust slowly come together. As they squeeze tighter, they get very hot. When they get hot enough, a new star is born! Some nebulas are made from old stars that exploded. The leftover gas and dust spread out and make amazing shapes.
- The word “nebula” means “cloud” in Latin.
- Some nebulas are shaped like animals, like the Horsehead Nebula that looks like a horse.
- One famous nebula called the Eagle Nebula has tall towers of gas called the “Pillars of Creation!”
