The American flag is a very special symbol of the United States. It has three beautiful colors: red, white, and blue. We see the American flag flying high at schools and parks. It reminds everyone to be kind and work together!
There are 13 long stripes that go across the flag. Some are red and some are white. These stripes help us remember the very first 13 states. If you look in the top corner, you will see a blue box with many white stars. There are 50 stars in total! Each star stands for one of the states in our big country.
Red stands for being brave and strong! People often call our flag “Old Glory.” The flag brings Americans together and reminds us of our freedom. It is a symbol that shows the whole world who we are as a country.
- The American flag has been changed 27 times as new states joined the country.
- A new star is added every time a new state joins the United States.
- The biggest American flag ever made was as big as a football field!
