The Nile is the longest river in the world. It flows about 4,130 miles through eastern Africa, from Lake Victoria in Uganda all the way north through Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. That is long enough to stretch from New York City to London and halfway back! The Nile passes through eleven countries.
- Ancient Egyptians built their whole civilization along the Nile thousands of years ago.
- Every year the river would flood and leave behind rich, dark soil that was perfect for farming.
- The famous pyramids and the Sphinx were built near the Nile!
- Today, most people in Egypt still live along the river.
