The Red Sea is a narrow strip of water between Africa and Asia. It sits between Egypt and Sudan on one side and Saudi Arabia on the other side. It is about 1,200 miles long but only about 190 miles wide. That makes it shaped like a long, skinny rectangle.
The Red Sea has some of the most colorful coral reefs on Earth. Over 1,000 kinds of fish live here, including clownfish, parrotfish, and lionfish. Dolphins and sea turtles swim in the Red Sea too. The clear, warm water makes it a great place to see underwater life.
- The Red Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world.
- It is also very warm.
- The water can reach 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer!
- Not many rivers flow into it, and the hot desert sun heats it up.
