Fiordland National Park is in the southwest corner of New Zealand. It is one of the wettest places on Earth. Some areas get rain almost every single day! All that rain creates hundreds of waterfalls that pour down steep cliffs into deep waterways called fiords.
- The park is also home to a rare bird called the takahe.
- Scientists once thought the takahe was extinct, but a small group was found hiding in Fiordland’s mountains in 1948!
- The park covers about 4,868 square miles, making it one of the largest parks in New Zealand.
