The Colosseum is a huge arena in Rome, Italy. It was built almost 2,000 years ago by the ancient Romans. Construction started in the year 72 and finished in the year 80. It is made of stone and concrete, and it could hold about 50,000 people. That is almost as many as a big baseball stadium today.
- The Romans used the Colosseum for exciting shows.
- Gladiators fought each other, and sometimes they even flooded the floor with water for pretend sea battles!
- The Colosseum had 80 entrances so all 50,000 people could get in and out quickly.
