The Colosseum is a huge arena in Rome, Italy. It was built almost 2,000 years ago by the ancient Romans. Construction started in the year 72 and finished in the year 80. It is made of stone and concrete, and it could hold about 50,000 people. That is almost as many as a big baseball stadium today.

The building is oval-shaped, about 620 feet long and 513 feet wide. It stands about 157 feet tall, which is as high as a 15-story building. Today, part of the Colosseum is broken because of earthquakes and time. But it is still one of the most visited places in the world.

The Colosseum is in the city of Rome, which is the capital of Italy. Italy is a country in Europe shaped like a boot. Rome is in the middle part of the boot.
