The Daintree Rainforest is in northeastern Australia, in the state of Queensland. It is one of the oldest rainforests on Earth. Scientists believe it has been growing for over 135 million years. That means it was already here when dinosaurs walked the planet!
Saltwater crocodiles, tree kangaroos, and the bright blue Ulysses butterfly all live in the Daintree. One special plant there is the idiot fruit tree, which has been around since the age of the dinosaurs. The forest gets up to 120 inches of rain every year, which is about 10 feet!
- The Daintree is the only place in the world where two World Heritage Sites meet.
- The rainforest grows right up to the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
- You can stand on the beach and see the reef in the ocean and the jungle behind you at the same time!
- More kinds of plants and animals live in the Daintree than almost anywhere else in Australia.
