The Congo Rainforest is the second-biggest rainforest in the world, after the Amazon. It is in central Africa, and it spreads across six different countries. The mighty Congo River winds through it. That river is the deepest river on Earth, reaching over 700 feet deep in some spots.
The Congo Rainforest is home to gorillas, chimpanzees, forest elephants, and okapis. An okapi looks like a mix between a giraffe and a zebra, with striped legs and a long tongue. More than 10,000 kinds of plants grow in the forest, and many of them are not found anywhere else.
- It is hot and steamy in the Congo Rainforest all year round.
- The temperature stays around 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and it rains almost every day.
- The trees are so thick that the forest floor is always shady and damp.
- The Congo Rainforest is sometimes called “the world’s second lung” because it makes so much oxygen!
