Alexander was born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He loved to study how sound travels through the air. Both his mother and his wife were deaf, which made him very interested in helping people communicate. Alexander moved to the United States and spent years working on inventions that used sound and electricity.

Alexander worked very hard and built the very first telephone! When he made the first successful phone call, he called his helper, Mr. Watson. It was a magical moment in history!
