The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is a very tall, white stone tower in Washington, D.C. It was built to honor George Washington, the very first president of the United States. It looks like a giant, pointy pencil reaching way up into the clouds! It is made of many pieces of marble and is the tallest building in the city.

When you stand at the bottom, you have to look all the way up to see the top! Inside, there is an elevator that can take you to the very peak. From the windows at the top, you can see the whole city and the beautiful Lincoln Memorial far below. People from all over the world come to visit this special landmark and remember our first president.
