The Statue of Liberty is a very big green lady who stands on an island in the water! She was a special gift from the people of France to the United States a long time ago. Even though she looks green now, she is actually made of copper, just like a shiny penny. Over many years, the air and rain turned her copper from brown to green.
Lady Liberty holds a bright torch high in the air to light the way. In her other hand, she holds a big book called a tablet. She wears a crown with seven sharp points that stand for the seven continents and the seven seas. She is a beautiful symbol that tells everyone they are welcome and free in America!
