It took thousands of workers many years to build it. The Nile River was very important to the people of Egypt. It is one of the longest rivers in the world. Every year, the river would flood and leave behind rich soil so farmers could grow food like wheat and barley.
The pharaoh was the king of Egypt. People believed the pharaoh was almost like a god! The Egyptians also wrote using small pictures called hieroglyphics. Each little picture stood for a word or a sound. They wrote on a special paper made from a plant called papyrus.
