Grapes

Grapes are small, round fruits that grow in big bunches on curly, twisting vines. They come in lots of beautiful colors like green, red, purple, and even black! Grapes have been grown by people for about 8,000 years, making them one of the oldest fruits that humans have been eating. A single grapevine can produce enough grapes to fill about 100 bunches, and some grapevines can live for over 100 years. Some grapes have small seeds inside, but many of the ones you find at the grocery store are seedless.

Here is something really cool: when grapes are dried out in the sun, they shrivel up and turn into raisins! It takes about four pounds of fresh grapes to make just one pound of raisins because so much water dries away. Grapes are a wonderful healthy snack because they are full of vitamins that help your body grow strong. You can pop them into your mouth one by one, freeze them for a cold treat, add them to a fruit salad, or pack them in your lunchbox. Grapes are grown on every continent in the world except Antarctica, so people almost everywhere get to enjoy them!
