Stevens Creek Trail is a paved path that runs alongside Stevens Creek in Mountain View and Cupertino, California. The trail is about 5 miles long, and it is a great place for families to walk, run, and ride bikes. The trail follows the creek through parks, neighborhoods, and natural areas where you can see trees, flowers, and wildlife. It is one of the most popular trails in the Bay Area!
Along the trail you can spot many animals. Great blue herons stand very still in the water, waiting to catch fish. Squirrels run up and down the oak trees. You might see deer nibbling on grass near the creek, especially in the early morning. The creek itself has small fish swimming in it, and in the winter, the water gets higher from rain. There are also beautiful valley oak trees that make a shady canopy over parts of the trail.
- Stevens Creek is named after Captain Elisha Stephens, who led one of the first wagon trains over the Sierra Nevada mountains to California in 1844.
- The trail connects to Shoreline Park, so you can walk from the neighborhood all the way to the bay!
- Great blue herons can stand over 4 feet tall, which is probably taller than you!
- The valley oak trees along the trail can live for over 300 years.
