Mountain View is a city in California, near the bottom of San Francisco Bay. About 82,000 people live there. The city got its name because people could see beautiful mountains from the valley where they built their homes. Today, Mountain View is right in the middle of a place called Silicon Valley, where many famous technology companies have their offices.
Downtown Mountain View has a lively street called Castro Street with restaurants, shops, and a big library. Shoreline Park is a huge outdoor area with a lake, trails, and lots of birds. The Googleplex is the headquarters of Google, one of the biggest technology companies in the world. You can see colorful Google bikes and fun sculptures outside the buildings!
Long before the city existed, the Ohlone people lived in this area for thousands of years. They built villages near the creeks and the bay. In the 1800s, farmers started growing fruits and vegetables in the sunny valley. The city was officially founded in 1902. Later, engineers and inventors moved in and turned the area into the technology center of the world!
- Steve Jobs, who started Apple and helped create the iPhone, grew up in Mountain View and went to school there!
- Google’s headquarters, called the Googleplex, is one of the most famous office buildings in the world.
- Mountain View’s Shoreline Park was built on top of an old garbage dump that was turned into a beautiful nature area.
- The Mountain View Whisman School District has been teaching kids in this area since the 1850s.
