Many things in our homes, like cleaning sprays and medicines, can be poisonous if we eat or drink them! They might look like candy or juice, but they can make you very sick. That is why you should never put anything in your mouth if you do not know what it is.
If you find something colorful in a bottle or a box, always ask a grownup before touching it. Grownups keep dangerous things up high or locked away to protect you. Never open bottles or containers that belong to grownups without asking first!
If you ever accidentally taste something yucky or strange, tell a parent right away so they can help. A grownup can also call a special poison help number to find out what to do. Always read labels with a grownup to learn what is safe and what is not!
- The Poison Help number in the United States is 1-800-222-1222, and it is available 24 hours a day!
- Many poisonous things have special warning symbols on their labels to tell you they are dangerous.
- Some plants can be poisonous too, so never eat berries or leaves you find outside unless a grownup says they are safe!
