Your body has five senses that help you understand the world around you: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch! These senses work together to help you experience everything in your life. Each sense sends messages to your brain, and your brain figures out what is happening.
Your eyes let you see colors, shapes, and movement. Your ears pick up sounds like music and voices. Your nose smells things like flowers and fresh cookies. Your tongue tastes whether food is sweet, salty, sour, or bitter. And your skin lets you feel if something is soft, rough, hot, or cold!
Sometimes your senses work together. For example, when you eat an apple, your tongue tastes it, your nose smells it, your eyes see the color, and your hands feel how smooth it is. Your senses also help keep you safe by warning you about things like loud noises or hot surfaces!
- Taking care of your eyes, ears, and body helps your senses stay sharp!
- Your tongue has about 10,000 taste buds that help you taste food.
- Your nose can remember about 50,000 different smells!
